RESUME TIPS

Cover letter makes the difference? Cover letters are essential and important for the job search. A cover letter is more about the job you are applying for and how your experiences can contribute to the specific job opening.

Starting the Cover Letter

Begin by carefully reading the job description and pick out the similarities between your career and the job description. It is important to place the strongest points in your cover letter, the letter should be no longer then one page.

EXAMPLE:

Dear Mr./Mrs.:

I am writing to express my interest in the Account Manager position in your Commercial Department.

My attached resume indicates; I have ten years experience.

If you have any questions, and would like to schedule an interview, please contact at (555) 555-5555.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Cordially, or Sincerely,

A brief letter is always best.

BEFORE THE INTERVIEW

Prepare! Find out who will be conducting the interview. More importantly, find out where it is! Bring along your resume so you can fill out forms accurately.

Find out as much about the company as possible through web site or brochures. Your recruiter will assist you with this, but it does not hurt to be prepared with as much information as possible.

DEFINE THE JOB

Be sure you have a current job description. Be prepared to answer questions under these three catagerties.:

Duties and responsibilties.

Job condition.

Attitude and values

DURING THE INTERVIEW

Here are a few questions you may be asked:

· What are your greatest strengths/weakness?

· Tell me a little bit about yourself/your background?

· Why do you want to work for this company?

· Where do you see your career five years from now?

· Why are you leaving your present employer and previous companies?

· Have you ever accepted counter offers? If so why?

· How would your describe your most recent job performance evaluation?

· What is your next career opportunity with your present employer?

· What is your most recent salary history?

· Can you get recommendations from previous employers or references?

Ask for the job. If you don't ask for it, chances are you won't get it!

AFTER THE INTERVIEW

Most importantly report back to P.E.S. recruiter and let him/her know how it went. Always follow up with a thank you letter to the interviewer. It does not need to be a long letter brief and to the point.

Background Review

During the first step in the interview process, the interviewer will review your employment application and resume. Always complete the application without leaving anything blank.
